Sometimes you feel like a nut…sometimes you don’t!

May 23rd, 2006 -- Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

And while Almond Joys’ got nuts, SNICKERS MARATHON BARS don’t!

Yes, that’s right. And I’m not sure how I feel about that. They are peanut and chocolate FLAVORED, but don’t actually have peanuts or chocolate.

I guess that’s how it works in the world of sports energy bars. I got them free in my goody bag at the race, so I’m not going to complain too much.

What I might complain a LITTLE bit about is that I have to go run 2.5 miles today. I might as well make it 3 miles, because I don’t know where the 2.5 mile mark ends, but I DO know where the 3 mile mark ends…oh boy.

Tomorrow it’s 3 miles again, and then Thursday supposed to be 2.5. What will I do, what will I do?! This Sunday is only 3 miles, that’s kind of nice. Yay for short running weeks!

My first 10K!!!

May 21st, 2006 -- Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Well, after a night of drinking a half bottle of wine and staying up talking with the girls (thanks Nina and Lori for an AWESOME time) I thought there was NO WAY IN HELL I could run my race.

I went to bed, and fell asleep (drunk) around 2:45 am…my alarm went off at 6:20 am to wake me up. I only snoozed until 6:25 and then got up to vomit, I mean, to brush my teeth.

I was tired, I was groggy, but I got up, I got dressed and got ready for the race. Biggest achievement, I was able to go number 2 before I got to the race location. This may sound like TOO MUCH information for your pleasure, but truth is, this is a concern of mine. I don’t want to be that marathon runner who craps in their pants you know??? So I’m trying to train my body to be able to go bathroom quickly enough after me waking up. OH BOY…

N E WAY…Ivan came and got me and he and I headed down to Grant Park in the chilly, but sunny morning. There were LOTS of people there and I followed the crowd to the starting area.

I got my timing chip and put it on CORRECTLY this time, and did some stretching. Ivan met me with video camera in hand, so we actually got some video footage of the event. Not much, but enough to see me run.

I was nervous since I was up so late the night before and had been drunk only a few hours earlier and this is the longest I have run in years! This 10k was called The Main Course

But guys, I tell ya what…I ran the FUCK out of that race. It felt great. I really did well. I didn’t achieve my goal of running it in under an hour, but I did run it in 1:01:14 and felt ok about going over my goal time by a minute and 14 seconds. Next 10K, I will do in under an hour!!!

So Ivan was there and got me crossing the finish line. I did GREAT on the straight away. Hopefully there will be some pictures of the event and hopefully there is one of me crossing the finish line. I gave VICTORY ARMS…threw ‘em up in the air and hopefully had a cute grin on my face! I’ll let you know if there are pictures of me or not.

I am proud to say I didn’t puke during or after the race. I ran it very well and solidly and I am really happy (over all) with my performance. I can’t wait for the next race. The races are SO MUCH FUN! Really, they are fun for the whole family. They have raffles after the race and I was really hoping to win something because this race was sponsored by a whole bunch or restaurants. They were giving away things like $100 to Bistro 110, $50 to Fleet Feet, a 1 night stay and breakfast at the Radisson Hotel in Chicago, a free pair of Crocs and so much more. Sadly, I didn’t win anything, but I’m optimistic for next time!

One of the BEST winners of the raffles was this 80 some year old man. He had won 2nd place for his age group with a time that KICKED MY ASS, something like 55 minutes or less…anyway, this guy ALSO won the raffle for dinner for two and drinks at HOOTERS!!! It was SO funny. I guess you had to be there to really derive pleasure from it, but you know…you can imagine.

Anyway, my next race is another 10K and it’s happening in two weeks. I would LOVE for people to come out for it and support me, though I know it’s pretty early for people to handle. Hopefully I will see some familiar faces cheering me on, but if not, I completely understand…it’s hard even for ME to get out of bed.

A very special thanks goes out to Ivan who got up even earlier then me to get ready and pick me up for the race and take me down there. He was transportation, videographer and support all in one. Thanks Ivan…without you, I really wouldn’t have done so well on this race!!!

Anyway guys…I DID IT! I have completely my first 10K!!! Hopefully some video footage is to come!

5 miles in one day

May 14th, 2006 -- Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

So this has been a trying time for the leaping lizard. These past few weeks have been crazy, and it has definitely been affecting my running AND blogging.

But today, after not having run for two weeks (since my first 5k race) I ran. I new I should make up for some of the many missed training miles so I decided to try to run 5 miles. HA HA. This was also in preparation of the upcoming 10k I’m going to be running in a week.

Low and behold, I did it. I was able to RUN the 5 miles and felt pretty good after doing so. I really had a nice finish and went for it. I was happy that I ran the distance and enjoyed running a long the lake BIG TIME.

Running by water = awesome

So I hope to be better about running, but no guarantees. I know I NEED to be if I want to be successful in marathon training, and I believe as life settles down over the next few months, I will be…better…

Anyway, I apologize for not running and for not blogging. I don’t mean to build people up with interest and then disappoint by not posting!!! So please, keep checking back…soon this baby will be up and running smoothly with out any glitches! *Scouts honor!

*I was never a scout…ha ha ha ha…
