Hello and welcome!

My name is Devin Schuyler, I’m what everyone at the art store I used to work at laughed at when someone called themselves “a student of life”, but it’s true. I am. A student of life, for life. I currently attend Columbia College Chicago where I am pursuing my Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts & Media. I graduated from the same school in 2005 with a BA in Film & Video concentrating in Directing and Writing.

Since I was a little girl (and I mean little) I was in love with all things art and nature related. I was fortunate enough to have incredibly talented artists floating in and out of my life for as long as I can remember, and while I wouldn’t say my passions (back then) were particularly fostered, I did try to pursue them by all means possible to me. I’ve been involved in acting since I was very young and love performing on both stage and in film. I have dabbled with drawing since I was 8 and painting since I was in high school. Ceramics has been a serious passion since my high school teacher Mr. Frank Moran introduced me to it and I’ve been hooked (if not always practicing) ever since. After much struggle to figure out what I should get my undergraduate degree in, I realized that it was obviously meant to be film. I looooove directing, and I looooove film as a medium and one day, it is true, I hope to direct a large scale motion picture. (You’ll discover I have very large dreams…)

Currently I’m working in many mediums: drawing & painting, book & paper, video, performance and photography. My hope as an artist is to solidify all of my passions into a cohesive body of work. By Febuary of ’09 I will finally have my own artist studio to spend my time working on my creations and keeping busy refining my skills. I’m very excited about what my future as an artist holds.

I maintain and update this blog and my site as a way of keeping in touch with the people I come in contact with daily but do not always have the time to get together with for various reasons – mostly that I work 40 hours a week at NMH while taking a full load of graduate classes and then, when I have the time, I run marathons as well…Just thinking about it all makes me want to take a nap!

I encourage you to check back often as I update my blog daily with lists and personal stories or community comments and questions. I’m on a quest…a quest of bettering myself as an artist and a human, and I’m documenting much of that quest here at devinschuyler.com.

PS- (because in life, we always have a post script, don’t we?) I owe most of everything I am,  around for and involved in to Ivan Meyers…my dearest friend and truly a soul mate. Without Ivan I surely would not be alive today, and I mean that sincerely…he has kept me grounded when the floor beneath me dropped, protected me from the skies when I found myself under numerous shit storms and been my confidant when I was too scared to open up to anyone else…

Also, he is my webmaster and technical go-to guru…Ivan is truly The.Best! Let’s all thank Ivan, shall we?!
