very tired, resolved and happy-ish

19 days straight has ended. I am glad for it. Class ended a touch early today, which was a lovely surprise, and everyone’s boxes looked incredible. Melissa Jay Craig is an amazing teacher and I feel so lucky to have had her for this class…if I am extremely lucky, I will have her again, but I’m not holding my breath – she’s in hot demand!

I hoped on the train and started my book, The Ladies of Grace Adieu by Susanna Clarke. It’s a collection of connected short stories about or around the topic of fairies and magic. It’s quite different from The girls guide to hunting and fishing which I thought was FABULOUS!!! I just loved it, and it left me feeling so hopeful! The Ladies has been interesting so far. I’m into and almost done the second story and it’s been messing with my brain a little as the second story, titled On Lickerish Hill is spelled phonetically. For someone like me, who is a TERRIBLE speller, this is a touch disconcerting for a fear it will have a lasting affect on my own brand of spelling. I HATE being such a terrible speller, but I’ve been getting better with each new book I read, but THIS story, well it’s going to unravel some of that repetitive learning I’ve been doing. In any case, it’s a great change and I love how each of the books I’ve been reading I’ve, more or less, thoroughly enjoyed. I feel so lucky to have been given such great recommendations – especially the connected short stories Audrey recommended to me. I think it will really help with the short stories I’m currently working on for Text I class…they are due end of this month; I’m a bit nervous about that.

Anyway, now I am home, I went from the el to my eye brow place and spent $9 to feel WORLDS better about how I look. It’s amazing how just having something simple like your eye brows shaped can make the whole look of you much better – I look more put together, clearer and brighter. It opens up my eyes to have them expertly done and as silly as I’m sure that sounds to many of you reading this, it’s just a little thing that makes me much happier. This combined with a great hair cut from my girl Kelly Moriarty at Studio 110, I feel like my prettier self despite sleep deprivation and stress showing signs of wear and tear on me.

On my way back home, in the rain, I snagged some used bricks from one of the buildings by Loyola that just got knocked down. I realized I didn’t have to BUY some bricks from the hardware store if I swiped a few (three to be exact) from the rubble that is littering the chain link fence they’ve set up around the construction site. I picked the best looking ones I could reach through the fence and stuffed them in my bag and came home. I’m going to rinse them off and set them to dry. Later today or this weekend I’ll case them in with binding board and then cover them with book cloth. THEN I’ll be able to use them to properly weigh down the slip covers (for books) and hand made boxes I’ll be constructing over the next few weeks/months/years… I’m very excited! Now if I could only find little bars of metal that I could get for free! Then I’d be set in terms of weights and such for these projects. YAY for FREE FINDS that I can use!!!

The plan after that is to heat up the yummy VERY LATE NIGHT meal Ivan made for me last night, sit and watch Lost from this week and then maybe another movie, OR, I’ll just curl up and go to bed…very very early.

Tomorrow, after much sleep, I’ll be feeling so much better after FINALLY getting some sleep and having a break. Ah…this will help give me the strength to continue to forge ahead AND also to see what I have to do in a better light and more clearly. I’m all about clarity!

I hope everyone else is enjoying a lazy (or productive) Saturday! It’s rainy here in Chicago and for once, I really wish it would thunderstorm like it does in the movies… If you know me, you know I am pretty scared of thunderstorms, but suddenly I feel like I’m completely over that silly fear and I wanna say BRING IT ON WEATHER! BRING.IT.ON!!!

Toodaloo for now fair readers! I look forward to writing a little something more (maybe showing my box from class?) tomorrow!

I love the “free” bricks! That is such a good idea. I’ve always used these massively heavy dictionaries that Z has to weigh things down. Maybe I should keep my eye out on construction sites!

19 days? I’m SO glad you finally get to take a break. You deserve it! Take it easy this weekend. And show us some pictures of your pretty face, with your fancy new haircut and eyebrows!!
