Music and Lyrics

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007 11:52 am

I think the Bethany can attest to the fact that I’m a little obsessed with the movie (and music from) Music and Lyrics starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore.

I saw it once, and then I had to see it again. Yes, I liked it that much. I’ve always been a huge Hugh fan, despite never having seen Four Weddings and a Funeral and of course Drew is one of my favorite romantic comedy leading ladies. This movie was nothing short of fun, fabulous and unadulterated romantic comedy bliss!

It opens with the music video for “Pop Goes My Heart” from the fantastical 80’s pop band POP (from the movie…and Hugh Grant SINGS). Yes…Hugh Grant, leather pants, cheesy 80’s music and great 80’s style music video magic made for open mouthed laughter that continued throughout the entire movie.

But this light hearted comedy is not without it’s message…one that rings so true for me! I LOVE THIS MOVIE. Yes…it’s going on the Amazon wish list even though I’m not supposed to buy any more DVD’s till the great DVD upgrade, or what ever Ivan keeps talking about, happens.

Fine. MAYBE I can wait…but why? I love the movie. I’ve already seen it twice and honestly, I’m considering seeing it a 3rd time. Ivan’ loved it. Bethany loved it. And she and I both probably play the songs from the Music and Lyrics myspace page at least once a week. It makes us happy.

“There are moments when I don’t know if it’s real. Or if anybody feels the way I feel. I need inspiration. Not just another negotiation”

Yeah, those lyrics…so damn catchy. The whole movie…SO DAMN CATCHY! I’m listening to the driving song behind the movie “Way Back Into Love” right now and I’m just loving it. Soon I’ll switch back to “Pop Goes My Heart” and smile. Oh yeah, Ivan even got me the soundtrack. Because I love it that much.

To make it all even that much better, Ivan learned “Way Back Into Love” both on guitar and piano and it turns out the song is so happily in my vocal range. I mean, of course it is, it’s as pop starlet as they get and that’s just what my voice likes to sing. Yeah…it’s great to sound like a 12 year old sometimes. (just kidding)

The concert scene with the Britney Spears type character, Kora Korbin kills me. I mean KILLS me. I have to say…damn, that girls got a rock’n body! At first I was shocked and my mouth hit the floor…but then I was just sort of like “you go girl”…if I had that body, I would rock the same outfits (or non outfits?) as they had her wearing in the movie. She looked so the part, and absolutely FANTASTIC!

Ah…I love my pop music. I can’t wait for Britney to make her big come back. That’s right…I’m holding my breath on this one. I love her, bald or otherwise and dammit, I’m not ashamed to admit it.

Now…back to my life…one day, hopefully sooner then later, there might be a little coffee shop concert happening somewhere in this oh-so-coffee-shop-performance-friendly city…and “Way Back Into Love” is so gonna be on the billing. Yeah…not sure HOW to fit it in with the other songs I’m thinking of…but I’ll work it in there some how.

Who knows WHEN said performance will happen…but when plans are made, you all will be the first to know. Ok…third, but that’s just because the coffee shop will be first and then Ivan will be second since he’s my accompanist! AWESOME!

“And if you help me to start again. You know that I’ll be there for you in the end…”

If you haven’t seen the movie, really you should…assuming it’s still in the theatres of course. For guys with girlfriends, it’s the perfect date movie…and ladies…it’s just a fun movie to see with your girlfriends (thanks Bethany).

Go see it. Or rent it immediately.

You’re welcome.

I always knew I loved you…

Well, I know, this is a totally girlish moment, but I can’t help it. I’m giddy with excitement. I almost can’t stand it.

I’m not sure what has come over me with things like this, but I found it happening about last year or so. My sudden obsession with the ever popular men of Hollywood. Men like Matthew Fox (the good Doc, Jack on Lost), and Daniel Craig (Mr. 007 himself).

This time it is only a little different. This time, my latest and greatest Hollywood crush has been a crush of mine every time I’ve seen him, though I didn’t know it’s been him all along…

Who am I talking about? What am I talking about? I’m talking about how imperative it is that I thank thank thank Frank Miller for writing 300 (first), then thank thank thank Snyder for writing the screenplay and directing the graphic novel on film. FINALLY, I must thank Gerard Butler simply for being.

OH the love. OH THE LOVE. I’m not joking; this is a crush, perhaps akin to that of Harrison Ford from back in the day. Ok, nothing comes close to Harrison Ford and that crush I had, but this one certainly is stronger then the others. He quite possibly could be my second Angelina Jolie.

Let’s talk about 300 for a moment. I’m going to say this about it. I loved it. I’m not going to give great details why, I’m going to be lame and just say these simple things about it:
-I loved the look of the film
-I looove me some slow motion and this movie was almost entirely shot IN SLOW MOTION. In fact, they slowed and sped the film up so much; I was giddy about the camera speed along with Gerards very sexy (and naked) derrier.
-Consequently, the above mentioned (camera speed, not Butler’s gorgeous backside) led to one of the coolest (in my opinion) fight sequences ever. Great action and fight choreography throughout!!!

-Most of the actors were near perfect. The only character I was not in love with was Rodrigo Santoro’s (Persian god-king). He seemed…like a pansy. I didn’t really like him, and I didn’t really like the voice they used for him. This is sad because I really enjoyed his character on Lost and I LOVED his character in Love Actually. Oh well, you win some, you loose some.
-I thought that the cinematography was rock solid. It’s great to know that some people are still a little bit traditionalists. They shot mostly against a blue screen, YET, they shot entirely on film. YES, on FILM. And for this, I am grateful. I thought it gave the movie just the right *feel* and *texture*.
-I liked the story. I thought it was short, concise, and solid. They didn’t focus on any unnecessary details, and the narration worked nicely. I didn’t have to think too much, and I got to really get INTO it.
-Set design, costumes, everything. It just looked incredible. I was so impressed. When you think that most everything was digitally done, you can’t help but want to stand and applaud because it looks so good.

Finally we come to my favorite part of the whole 300 experience. Gerard Butler. My dearest dearest Hollywood love. I’m so impressed by him.

I was watching the film and I kept thinking to myself, I know this guy. I KNOW this guy. And I DO, I DO know this guy. He was Angelina Jolie’s love interested in the second Tomb Raider movie (and I loved him in that), and was also THE PHANTON in the Phantom of the Opera. OH MY GOD.

I loved that movie, and the reason was because I was so in love with him. AND IT’S THE SAME PERSON!!! The Phantom is Dracula is Love interest to Angie is Spartan King Leonidas. Oh, what I wouldn’t do for my Spartan King.

Seriously.

Those of you that know me know I’m not into muscles. In fact, I don’t really like to see men with muscles; it makes me sort of squeamish for some reason. Some men can pull it off, but typically speaking, if they have serious wash board abs (6 packs, 8 packs), I’m usually thinking thick necks and NO THANK YOU.

But not Gerard. Oh Gerry…Gerry Gerry Gerry. We could be happy together. He’s of Irish decent though he was raised in Scotland. I LOVE his accent. I LOVE his gorgeous eyes. And let’s face it…him with full facial hair? UNBELIEVABLY HOT.

I even LIKED the muscles. This might be a first time.

See…I’m gushing like a school girl, but I can’t help it. The more reading up on him I do, the more and more and MORE I love him. According to my ever accurate internet sources, he is one of the friendliest and most modest actors working in Hollywood. He spends time with the camera crews as well as the fans and always downplays the things he does.

It turns out he even saved a kid from drowning and downplayed that by saying he did what anyone else would have done. And we all know that isn’t the case. We all WANT to be heroes, but that doesn’t mean that when the time comes, we will hear the call and act on it.

So yeah, he’s gorgeous, and his ridiculously talented and he’s ripped. I NEVER thought the day would come when I would say, YES, I WANT THAT…but here is the day I guess. It has finally come and YES…

…I WANT THAT.

I also never thought little pants (that look more like leather underwear) could be sexy like he made them, like all of the Spartans made them seem. Oh my. I’m drooling. I have officially become one of *those* women. I’m almost annoyed with myself. But on the other hand, I can’t help it.

He’s beautiful and talented and I’m in Hollywood-Love.

He‘s also not married…so…you know…

It’s a Devin Adventure

This is SO SILLY, I know, but I’m geeking out all over the place and therefore this just *fits the bill*.

You can go here to have your name, or a word “sloganized”. I typed in my name and “It’s a Devin Adventure” is what I got.

How appropriate. I laughed. I smiled. Then I sneezed. But any who…

While I don’t normally do these things, occasionally one catches my eye. This one did. If you read this, and try it out, feel free to reply to this post with the fun, silly, stupid or interesting *slogans* you get!

Happy Friday!
