The things we can control

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007 3:54 pm

Sometimes, they are not healthy, the things we can control.

Sometimes, we choose to do things that are good for our minds, body and spirits.

Sometimes…we choose not to.

In either case, there is something to everything you can control. If a situation makes you sad, you can CONTROL how sad it makes you, or…how you react to the sadness. Same as if something makes you happy. You might not be able to control peeing your pants with delight, but you CAN control how you handle the aftermath of peeing your pants!

Yes…my brain is fried.

And tired.

But at least it’s not on drugs…

And the Oscar goes to…

ELLEN DEGENERES!!!

I know everyone is going to say I am bias, and that I thought the show was great because I love Ellen, but that is NOT the only reason why I thought Ellen did a great job last night and that this was the best Oscar show in many years. NO, I say it for multiple reasons:

*Ellen was AWESOME. She was positive, she was bright, she was light and funny. Oh yeah, and she kicked ass…
*The orchestration for this years ceremony was perfect. THEY DIDN’T PLAY THROUGH the acceptance speeches. Someone must have read my letter from last year!
*I loved the dancers
*I loved Will Ferrell, Jack Black & John C Reilly’s Oscar song about Comedian’s! I choked on my own laughter!!!
*Melissa E’s kiss to her wife…sweet and super full of the “awwww” factor.
*Ellen first giving her script to Martin Scorsese then later on asking Steven Spielberg to take her picture with Clint Eastwood. Classic.
*Cameron Diaz did NOT look cute in that hideous dress…and I love that!
* The montages put together by various film makers was really interesting to watch.
*Helen Mirrin looked stunning, as did Diane Keaton, giving me hope that I too can look like a billion bucks when I am in my 50’s and 60’s!
*The overall feel of the show, the look, the class, the attendants.
*The opening montage of various film makers was great, I enjoyed every second of it, even if I didn’t know who the specific person was! I’m glad that Academy recognized them!

Really, it was just a great show, and I’m so happy Ellen hosted! Portia looked so proud to be watching her sweetheart on stage. I think Portia was actually beaming brighter then some of the lights! I was beaming too…

Thanks Ellen, for a kick ass Oscar night…you’ve brought back hope to me that the Oscar’s can be fun again.

Spreading the good word…

For those of you unfamiliar with the place, but who live in the general vicinity of Rogers Park, you should check out a great little market called City Fresh. It is on the corner of Devon and Kedzie, just east of McCormick Blvd.

This place is a great! It has really fresh produces and the prices are unbeatable. I used to think Devon Market was the cheapest place for me to go shopping for groceries around my neighborhood, but when I have a car, I like to make the trip out to City Fresh because the variety (and delicacies they offer) are really special. And hey, they sell a bottled water called DEVIN!

If I’m really into saving the pennies (which I am), then I like to make a few stops; City Fresh (produces, pastries and CHEESES!!!), Save On (canned goods, boxed foods and cleaning supplies) and Trader Joe’s (frozen fish, pastas and wine). I’ve got it all down to a science now. Trader Joe’s isn’t exactly in my neighborhood, but since they opened up one downtown, I can go on my lunch break and carry the stuff home with me after work. Not a bad deal!

Enjoy the tip!

…about the bears.

the game: disappointing.

started out strong, ended with a bang of confetti, for the other team.

I was sad. I felt crushed…defeated. My Devin Hester dance only worked in the first 2 minutes of the game. My prayers for Grossman did no good.

Has anyone shot him yet?

DA BEARS!

OK, so I never ended up posting anything after the last game. But the Bears are in the Superbowl, and I’m pretty sure I called that shit a while back now.

I’m not bragging. But I am fucking exstatic! This is totally awesome!

SO…I also believe I said that I think the Bears can win this game…my motto being “any given Sunday”. Well people, after we won the last game, I realized it for certain.

The Bears ARE the winners. They WILL be the champions. I’m so excited for todays game I could be acting all giddy like a school girl with a crush on her History teacher…one that looks like Harrison Ford…

ANYWAY…GO BEARS!

Today’s game will prove to be so fucking exciting, I’m not sure I will be able to eat any of the veggie chili I made for the big day! This is going to be a game to remember. And hey, with Prince for half time…yeah, I’m really excited.

DA BEARS!

GO BEARS!

Tuesday…Super Bowl Champion’s Parade in Chicago baby! It will be awesome.

Hope everyone enjoys the big game…this is the first one I’ve had to look forward to since ’92! DAMN!

YAY DEVIN HESTER! YAY 54 URLACHER!!! Go Number 20 (and hero of last game) Thomas Jones!!! And of course my dream team kickers: #9 Robbie Gould (foot of Gold they should call him) and #4 Brad Maynard!!!

Shit, I totally forgot Lovie Smith!!! Oh man…this game is just going to kick some ass!

Come on Rex…show’em what you got! Go Rex go! Go Rex go! Go Rex go!

GO BEARS!
